…and the trains run on time!

City skyline from out boat.As the rooster crowed I woke up and re-packed my bag – emptying out the contents to ensure that there was no items that was likely to get me shot or caned in Singapore. We arrived in Singapore, picked up our bags and as I turned to find customs, I was sorely disappointed when I noticed that no one was manning the customs desk and we walked straight through to the airport shuttle bus.

Efficiency is the word for Singapore – especially after being in Indonesia. The queue are orderly, the taxis are metered, there is quality control measures on everything and the buses run every six minutes. The guide book describing the public transport system is literally a novel and has about 10 pages on public transport safety, it is a bit of an ergonomist’s dream city.

Matt hasn’t wiped the smile off his face since we have arrived. He is enjoying looking at all the IT gadgets that we cannot get in Oz, the clean water and of course the variety of fast food outlets.

Today we went to Raffels and enjoyed a Gin Sling in the Long Room Bar and then a buffet afternoon tea in the Tiffin room – which we had to book in advance. Matthew almost keeled over when he saw how I loaded my plate – he knew that I had an appetite when he married me. The food was exquisite! We had a fantastic time catching up with Gail (dad’s partner) and her mother who had a stop over in Singapore on their way home from Europe. It was all a bit posh – the poor people who have to polish all that silver!

We have also finally found a decent internet pipe and hopefully tonight is the night that we will be able to upload some photos.

Unfortunately dad had to delay meeting up with us, so we are catching up with him in Bangkok and he is staying with us through Cambodia and Vietnam. Matt and I are also looking at our own travel plans, we are thinking about extending our stay in Singapore and reducing the time we planned to stay in Malaysia, we are going to try and track down a travel agent tomorrow.

Thanks for all the emails, I am really enjoying getting news from home!

  1. I ‘m stuck in an extra and its friday period 6. The rest of the class has gone mad so I thought I would drop you a line while the class in rioting. It is summer again and the warm weather is nice to see after all the rain. We went to see an MTC production last night and Margaret thought it was really great. She is really enjoying having two full days off work this year and is starting to get jobs done at home ie gardening. The pooch is till driving us mad with the odd bark or two. Victoria has decided to take up tennis and is on the court with Andrew every tuesday after school. Andrew surpised every one at his St Bernards when he blitzed them at the swimming carnival the other day. He is really enjoying his new class mates and is walking to school noe so he can drop off at his friends places on the way home. He is still running the papers out each morning but is going to resign when we head off to Tasmania in April. We plan to do the overland over eight days and knock over a few small peaks on the way. Maragaret and I had better get into training (She doesn’t know about the small peaks yet!). Apart from that we are well and enjoying term one. Keep having fun and enjoy thailand. Love David

  2. Great photo and hair cut. Thanks for your emails. Time was tight for you both and all is good. We will see you when you eventually come back. In the meantime, have a wonderful, wonderful trip.

  3. Matt, I have always been worried about you. The photo should be of you in the bar, with the Gin Sling. Or if outside, you should be leaning at a 45 degree stance, or better horizontal(alone). Please try and keep up the Aussie Image. Have a great time – catch you later……and don’t lose your Superman carry bag. Jeff

  4. We love the hair (or lack of) Matty. It looks really cool, seriously. We voted on it & think it should stay. There are some lovely shots, (the nails look fantastic Phil !) It’s nice to see your faces again, you both look really well. We went to the Zoo today, had a great time with Jodie, Marc & the twins. We told the kids that the Zoo was far away it would take a while to get there, so Sheylin asked if you guys were going to meet us there because “Matty & Phil went a long way away too!”. Lots of cuddles from all of us, we think of you everyday & the kids say a little prayer at bedtime for you. We love the website it’s great. Stay safe, be good & keep the photo’s and updates coming. Lotsa luv – Mik Kel , & the gang xxxxoooo :^)
